As a proactive and forward thinking local authority Wandsworth was the second Council in London to achieve BS7799 certification. In line with its commitment to maintain this high status the Council undertakes regular penetration testing of its security environment.

In 2006 the Council appointed Imerja to provide services for a comprehensive 360 Degree Pen Test based on the modular Open Source Security Testing Methodology Manual (OSSTMM). The Council chose a selection of tests to be undertaken, beyond most typical penetration test services, including:
- Policy Posture Review
- Internal Vulnerability Test of its host systems and resources
- External Vulnerability Test of its perimeter security defences
- Penetration Test of Internal and External defence systems and services
- Mobility Test, including wireless, remote access, and home worker defences
- Social Engineering Test, including Intelligence Scouting
Imerja completed the testing over a period of 30 days, having provided a detailed project plan showing activity timelines, stages and milestones.
Throughout testing Imerja worked closely with key Council staff who were kept informed at every stage.
As a result of the testing and detailed reporting the Council now has an excellent understanding of its overall security posture and a strong foundation on which to continue its security planning and protection.
